Three Things Every Recruitment Business Needs To Know About AI

In insight / By Mark Flynn / 24 July 2018

The 3 things every recruitment business needs to do to unleash the AI beast and turn their businesses into a world beater!

This week I talked with Alistair Rynish, CEO at the international recruitment agency First Point Group about the need to embrace change if you want to be a top recruitment business.

In the interview, I got Alistair’s take on how AI and other technologies are affecting how he does business and he confirmed that he is starting to see AI technologies being integrated into the recruitment process which will change how recruitment businesses operate.

Some of the major benefits to be gained by recruitment agencies through the adoption of AI include time saving, productivity gains and speed in delivering results to clients. For example, how much time does a recruiter spend sifting through CVs per successful placement? In my experience, this is where the majority of time is spent.

What if you used an AI to do the pre-screening, sifting through the hundreds of candidates applying for a job, creating a short list of 10 hot candidates for a consultant to focus on.

Of course, getting to the point where you can integrate AI into your business isn’t as simple as buying some expensive AI software and letting it get on with its thing. In my experience there are 3 steps you need to take to be ready for AI.

Firstly, you need to make sure your CRM is in order. Cleanse your data, getting rid of useless or out of date information because this rubbish data will only confuse the AI and make it produce useless results.

Secondly, build a single version of the truth for your clients and candidates by centralising all the available data into one format with no separate portals and random spreadsheets tucked away anywhere. If the data is in one place then an AI will have a far easier time coming up with quicker and more accurate results. Finding great candidates can be like looking for a needle in a haystack, using AI will enable you to find that needle quickly but you’ve got to sort out your data first.

Lastly, rationalise and automate the business processes used from sourcing candidates to placement. Ideally, you should have one process across the business for all those working on contractor placements and similarly, one process for those working on permanent placements. Unfortunately, I see many examples of businesses where every consultant is using their CRM system in a different way.

In summary, by investing time and effort to get this work completed, you’ll be one step closer to unleashing the AI beast and on track to becoming a world beating recruitment agency!
