The John Fairclough Foundation

In news / By Lydia Cooper / 14 January 2020

The John Fairclough Foundation was set up in memory of Nasstar’s friend and colleague, John Fairclough, as a way to continue his work in promoting the effective use of charities and providing support for organisations in the local area.

John joined Nasstar as HR Manager in 2016, quickly becoming a core part of the business. John’s commitment to go above and beyond ensured that the HR function supported every single member of the Nasstar team from the moment they joined the organisation. John was always on hand for advice, guidance and a generous dose of common sense in any situation, with many seeing John as the ‘grandfather of Nasstar’ - a true testament to his caring, supportive nature.

John sadly passed away suddenly in July 2019. Understandably, the news had a massive impact on the organisation and as such the team set about creating initiatives that would ensure his memory lived on. Throughout his life John worked closely with various charities, in particular, local charity Severn Hospice where he was the Chairman of Trustees. In order to continue John’s charitable work, the team at Nasstar created “The John Fairclough Foundation” and appointed four trustees to run and promote it.

The objective of the foundation is to promote the effective use of charities, particularly those in Shropshire. This initiative also provides all Nasstar employees involved in their own challenges and activities outside of the work environment with a common charitable cause for donations.

Since the foundation’s inception, we’ve raised almost £400 through a combination of cake sales, donations and charity Christmas cards. To celebrate John’s time at Nasstar, the teams at each office location came together to raise a glass to absent friends, with many giving donations in honour of John. The trustees have now set themselves a goal to raise £2,000 in 2020 through a number of objectives, with news of these to come soon.
