Network Engineer - Bournemouth
Reporting to: Technical Manager
Purpose of job:
To play a critical role in the implementation, management and design of the Network infrastructure to enable Nasstar Plc and its subsidiaries to provide new high-quality solutions to meet business and customer requirements.
• Provide and implement solutions based on core offerings. • Provide on-going maintenance and development of the Data Centres and the associated core networks. • Assist in the Design, implementation and development of technological solutions to meet current and future business and customer needs. • Ensure that customer solutions have adequate capacity for any potential future growth. • Support the delivery of standard and bespoke networking devices. • Provide on-going high-level support of customer equipment independent of physical location.
Skills & Knowledge:
Proven and demonstrable ability in most of the following areas within a data centre environment and enterprise environments is highly desirable.
• Solid, demonstrable understanding and troubleshooting of current IP technologies including:
o Routing (Static, OSPF and BGP)
o Switching (VLANs and LAGs)
o Firewalls including Clavister, SonicWALL, Cisco ASA and pfSense
o DNS, DHCP, NAT and VPNs
o Tunnelling protocols, IPsec, L2TP
• Cisco IOS / NX-OS, Comware, Brocade, Procurve, VYOS and Ubiquiti • WAN technologies such as MPLS, VPLS and PWAN. • IP telephony or Unified Communications preferably Mitel/ShoreTel/MS Teams. • Network monitoring tools such as Nagios, LibreNMS, SolarWinds Orion or other SNMP/NETFLOW systems. • Automation tools - Ansible
Proficiency in the following areas is desired.
• Practical understanding of Windows Server, Unix or Linux operating systems • Wireless technologies such as Aruba, Ubiquiti and Cisco. • Hypervisor technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V • Enterprise hardware for servers and storage including SAN. • Good understanding of Storage networking (Fibre Channel and iSCSI)
The ideal candidate should be able to communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal form with customers, colleagues and suppliers on all technical and non-technical levels.
Hours of work:
Normal working hours are 09.00 to 17.30. With the nature of this role, out of hours working should be anticipated. The job will involve both on site and off site working, weekends and out of hours as projects may demand, and in addition you may be required to be on-call one week in eight.
